Would you like to crochet your own SUSHI Bear, an amigurumi inspired by Japan's *KAWAII* culture and a love for the environment?

In this pattern book, I explain how to crochet through words, just as I have done in my amigurumi classes since 2009.

Each round and row is carefully explained in writing, with crochet abbreviations and reference photos to guide you through the process.

If you've hesitated to try making amigurumi because you find crochet charts difficult to read, I hope you'll give this pattern a try.

【The Story Behind SUSHI Bear】

In January 2025, I was selected as a Future Artist at Vogue Knitting LIVE in New York—the only Japanese artist chosen.

SUSHI Bear was created as my main artwork for the event.

The polar bear, representing sushi rice (*shari*), is a species at risk of extinction. The fish and seafood we enjoy as sushi toppings are also closely connected to the delicate balance of marine ecosystems.

Along with Japan's *KAWAII* culture, this artwork reflects two themes that have long been central to my work: biodiversity and sustainability.

I would be very happy if crocheting your own SUSHI Bear sparked a conversation about endangered species or environmental issues—or simply made you think, "Amigurumi is fun!"
